CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSAs are structured with members who purchase a share from a providing farm and in return, the farm will provide members with high quality, truly fresh, local and biologically grown produce for a given amount of weeks during the growing season.
Weekly shares may be picked up at a convenient drop-off location or may be picked up at the farm during certain hours. Members typically pay for an entire season upfront to enable farmers to plan for the season, purchase seeds, make equipment repairs and to cover other related costs. Produce included in shares will vary from week to week during the growing season. Weekly share boxes will include a variety of produce based on which crops are in-season and grown to peak freshness during that week. A weekly list will be packed in share boxes of exactly what is included in the box. A monthly newsletter will also be provided that will include helpful tips, farm information and events, interesting recipes and what to expect from your share in the coming month.
Generally, people who join a CSA care about HOW their food is being grown and by WHO is growing it. The Pure Breed Livestock Farm utilizes organic and sustainable growing practices while using heirloom and non-GMO seeds. Your food will be grown by someone you know and trust. These are things that are not offered in a grocery store.
Don’t be concerned about going on vacation or the weeks you or a friend is unable to pick up your share; The Pure Breed Livestock Farm will deliver all left over produce to one of our local food pantries. The benefits of your CSA membership can go further than your initial investment. The Pure Breed Livestock Farm’s CSA aims to provide our community with access to better nutrition, security of food source, minimize fossil fuel use and help to better our local economy by keeping money circulated in our hometowns. Our CSA season will be from mid-June through September with a total of 14 weeks. Confirmed customers will receive additional information with specifics as June approaches.
